Wages and Benefits
New hires begin employment as a Correctional Officer 1 at an hourly wage of $25.09 and move through the range to a maximum of $29.50. Based on accumulated hours and satisfactory job performance they can eventually progress to Correctional Officer 2 classification at a starting hourly wage of $26.96 to a maximum hourly salary of $34.09.
The ministry offers full-time employees insured benefits including extended health; life insurance and long-term disability; sick leave and various leaves, according to their collective agreement. Vacation time corresponds to continuous years of service.
Part-time (fixed-term) correctional officers receive a percentage of their wages in lieu of statutory holidays, vacation and insured benefits.
