Facilities Housing Vulnerable Occupants: Web Portal
April 27, 2016
The purpose of this communiqué is to remind fire departments of the resources developed by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM) to assist owners, operators and staff of care occupancies, care and treatment occupancies, and regulated retirement homes in achieving Fire Code compliance in these facilities. These resources include a set of questions and answers that have been updated recently to clarify a number of applicable Fire Code requirements.
To facilitate access, the resources are consolidated on the OFMEM Web site under the “Care Occupancies, Care and Treatment Occupancies, and Retirement Homes” link, which can be found on the home page menu. The resources are organized under the following headings:
- A Road Map to the Fire Code
- Compliance Schedule
- Approved Fire Drill Scenario/Mandatory Inspection
- Training Materials/Information
- Other Documents
- Questions and Answers
The OFMEM encourages periodic visits to the portal as resources are updated on a regular basis. Enquiries regarding the portal and its content should be directed to Technical Services, OFMEM; staff members can be reached by telephone at (647) 329‑1100 or by e-mail at FireSafetyStandards@ontario.ca.
