Gasoline Spill in Clearview Township

On Wednesday, July 21, 2004, a gasoline tanker truck struck a house in the community of Duntroon in Clearview Township. At 5:20 p.m. ET, due to suspected gasoline contamination of the groundwater, a State of Local Emergency was declared for the communicty of Duntroon. This resulted in the evacuation of approxiamtely 50 homes.

There have been no reports of injuries or fatalities resulting from the incident. Water testing has been conducted around the accident site, and no contamination or gasoline vapors have been detected thus far. The Simcoe County Health Unit is advising private well users within Duntroon not to use their well water for any purpose other than toilet flushing, until further notice. Testing of the groundwater is expected to continue overnight. Electricity has been restored to surrounding homes.

The Provincial Operations Centre of Emergency Management Ontario monitored the incident which was cleared up the same day.
