Kashechewan First Nation

Kashechewan First Nation, a community at the mouth of the Albany River on James Bay, declared an emergency Oct. 15, 2005, due to an E. Coli outbreak in their water system.

On Oct. 24, after reviewing the situation, Premier Dalton McGuinty and the Government of Ontario announced that up to 60 per cent of the community would be evacuated.

On Oct. 27, 2005, the City of Cochrane declared an emergency for the purpose of accepting the evacuees from Kashechewan.
