What is a criteria offence?

Criteria offences include the following current Criminal Code offences and any similar sex offences known by different names in the past:

  • Sexual interference
  • Invitation to sexual touching
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Incest
  • Bestiality
  • Child pornography (making, possessing, distributing)
  • Parent or guardian procuring sexual activity
  • Exposure in front of a child
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual assault with a weapon, threats to a third party or causing bodily harm
  • Aggravated sexual assault.


If someone living in Ontario has been convicted and received a sentence anywhere in Canada for one or more of these offences, that person must register with their local police.
