Agency Licensing Requirements

Stage 1

Application for an Agency Licence

An applicant must submit the following documentation to start the first phase of the application process for an agency licence:

• A personal resumé and business plan outlining a proposal for the prospective agency;
• Three letters of reference from business associates, friends, former employers or other persons;
• A letter from a bank or financial institution indicating how you have managed your financial affairs in the past, accompanied by a written request for an appointment for an agency interview.

If an interview is granted, be prepared to answer questions to prove you have a satisfactory working knowledge of the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 and Regulations, the Trespass to Property Act, the Criminal Code of Canada, and any other laws that may relate to the nature of the business.

Applicants or their management staff must have a minimum of three years experience in the security/investigation industry or a related field.

You will also be expected to satisfy the Registrar that you have arranged for or possess sufficient capital to operate a business of the nature you are proposing.

Security guard and dually licensed agencies will be expected to satisfy the Registrar that arrangements are being made for acceptable uniforms, company identification patches, personal equipment and vehicles intended to be used by the agency.
