South West Detention Centre
Economic Benefits
The following anticipated economic benefits are related to the construction and operation of the South West Detention Centre:
- An estimated $30 million in salaries will be paid out to construction workers during the project
- $16 million in supply purchases from local businesses
- Roughly 800 person years of employment will be generated throughout the project. This will result in approximately 125-175 construction-related jobs.
- An increase of correctional services jobs will be located at the South West Detention Centre when the project is complete
While the anticipated economic benefits created by the South West Detention Centre will be spread throughout Windsor and Essex County and Ontario, local business of all kinds will likely receive the greatest benefit.
