Construction of the South West Detention Centre supports the Ontario government’s commitment to safe, strong communities.

Construction of the new 315 bed facility will ensure we have new facilities ready to meet our current and future capacity needs and to resolve issues regarding overcrowding at the aging Windsor Jail.

South West Detention Centre will:

• Maintain the highest of security standards, with state-of-the-art technology
• Be located in an industrial and commercial area
• Help meet projected capacity requirements
• Be accessible by major city and provincial highways and public transit
• Reflect sound correctional practices in a functional, modern, maximum security working environment
