Physical Sciences
The Physical Sciences section is comprised of the Electronics, Documents and Photoanalysis, and Firearms and Toolmarks Units.
In addition, staff conduct metallurgical and mechanical testing of broken or faulty parts and interpret data gathered from the scenes of motor vehicle or industrial accidents, crimes, fires and explosions. They are also responsible for restoring obliterated serial numbers and identification stamps.
