Formerly a sub-unit of the Chemistry Section, Forensic Engineering is now part of the Physical Sciences Section. Services offered include:
- Failure analysis of broken or faulty components from motor vehicle or industrial accidents, fires, explosions and other suspected criminal acts.
- Strength and functionality determination of various items found at crime scenes.
- Lock examination for the determination of the locked or unlocked position and evidence of possible tampering.
- Motor vehicle tire examination to determine whether or not a “blow-out” may have contributed to a collision.
- Motor vehicle collision analysis including speed determinations, point of impact on the roadway, vehicle movements, time/distance calculations and perception/reaction estimates.
