Re: Training and Testing Regulation
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services’ Training and Testing Regulation has been filed. Beginning April 15, 2010, all new applicants will be required to have successfully completed basic training and passed the ministry test prior to applying for a security guard and/or private investigator licence under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act, 2005 (PSISA).
Existing licensees whose licensees expire between April 15, 2010 and July 15, 2010 can apply for a renewal without having to successfully complete the ministry test. However, these individuals will be required to pass the test by their next renewal date. If an existing licensee’s renewal date falls on or after July 16, 2010, they must pass the ministry test before submitting their renewal application. Existing licensees are not required to take the basic training course.
As previously communicated, Serco DES Inc. will be delivering the ministry’s security guard and private investigator tests across Ontario. Further details will follow regarding test registration for candidates through Serco’s website.
For more information on the Training and Testing Regulation, please see our “Backgrounder”, or visit the Frequently Asked Questions section of the ministry’s website at http://www.ontario.ca/private-security, which can be found under “Training and Testing”.
We encourage you to communicate this information to your employees.
We look forward to your continued support as we implement the Training and Testing Regulation to enhance public safety in Ontario.
Yours truly,
Lisa Kool
Registrar / Director
