Annual Compliance Report
At the end of 2008, the Ontario fire service reached an important milestone. Every fire department in Ontario complied with the minimum requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, and had been issued a certificate of compliance by the Fire Marshal. To accomplish this, our fire advisory staff and personnel of the municipalities or jurisdictions worked closely together.
Now, to demonstrate their ongoing compliance, all fire departments are required to complete an Annual Compliance Report and submit it to the OFM for review. Our advisory staff will continue to provide advice and assist municipalities as required to ensure compliance.
Assistant to the Fire Marshal Identification Cards Program
An Assistant to the Fire Marshal is a person who has been granted certain powers under the authority of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997. For example, he or she has the authority to take particular actions when a risk of fire poses an immediate threat to life. The Fire Marshal issues Assistant to the Fire Marshal identification cards to these persons for use in performing their duties. The cards must be renewed every three years.
Provincial Advisory Group on Marijuana Grow Operations and Crystal Methamphetamine Laboratories (formerly the Green Tide Action Group)
This advisory group provides advice and recommendations to the Government of Ontario with respect to marijuana grow operations and clandestine drug laboratories. One of the group's main objectives is to improve the safety of fire, police and other emergency services personnel by addressing the health, safety and environmental dangers associated with illegal drug operations.
The Fire Marshal co-chairs the group along with a representative of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police.
