Annual Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Awards
Every year, Ontario fire departments nominate children, organizations, partners, individuals and the media whose actions merit a Fire Safety Award. A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects the winners.
The Fire Marshal selects and presents the Fire Marshal's Award for Excellence in Fire Safety. This very special award recognizes a group or individual who makes an exceptional contribution in promoting fire safety and public education in Ontario.
The Fire Marshal presents the well-deserved awards at the annual awards ceremony hosted by the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council and its proud sponsors. The Office of the Fire Marshal provides administrative support throughout the awards process.
Federal Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal
The OFM processes applications for the exemplary service medals. Fire Chiefs present these medals to their fire department personnel. The Fire Marshal presents them to staff of his office.
Ontario Fire Services Long Service Medals and Awards
The long service medal is an expression of appreciation of dedication and hard work. Under the authority of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 (FPPA), the Fire Marshal issues an Ontario Fire Services Long Service Medal and citation to fire department uniformed staff for 25 years of service. These are awarded at special investiture ceremonies. At 30 years of service and every five years thereafter, a service bar may be requested and added to the medal's ribbon. The spouse of each of medal recipient receives a companion brooch or keychain.
The Fire Marshal also recognizes the administrative personnel of his office and fire departments who have completed 20 years of service.
