Who can perform monthly tests of a fire alarm system?

R1:

Any person can perform the monthly test of a fire alarm system. As noted in Article 1.2.1.1. of Division C however, annual tests or annual inspections of a fire alarm system as well as repairs, replacements or alterations of a fire alarm system must be performed by individuals meeting the qualifications outlined in the Fire Code. Similar provisions for the annual tests of interconnected smoke alarms are stipulated in Article 1.2.2.1. of Division C.

Does the Fire Code specify qualifications for individuals who install interconnected smoke alarm systems?

Yes.

What qualifications are necessary to perform annual tests or maintenance on interconnected smoke alarm systems?

R1:

The qualifications for performing work on interconnected smoke alarm systems are detailed in Subsection 1.2.2. of Division C and are the same as those needed to perform annual inspections and maintenance on existing fire alarm systems in accordance with Subsection 1.2.1. of Division C. The two fire alarm training programs deemed acceptable by the Fire Marshal are: Canadian Fire Alarm Association, "Fire Alarm Technician Program" Electrical Contractor's Association, "Fire Alarm and Protection Certification Program"
