Education and Training

Links between Standards, Education, Testing and Certification

The educational and training programs developed by the Office of the Fire Marshal or in partnership with the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs are based on a sound educational process that begins with occupational standards that are developed by, and for, practitioners. Education and training programs are designed to meet these standards.

Upon completion of a program or course of study that is based on a Standard, candidates are tested in skills and knowledge, to ensure that they have met the competencies as defined in the Standard.

Once the testing is complete, and any other requirements are met, candidates are offered Certification.

Flow chart showing how standards determine what education and training is needed, how that determines what needs to be tested, and the resulting certification when knowledge and skill requirements are met.
