Hamilton — Dr. Bonita Porter, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a new date has been set for the inquest into the death of Evan Jones.
Mr. Jones, age 18, died on August 25, 2010, at his residence in Brantford during an encounter with the Brantford Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Jones’ death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last 2 weeks and to hear from approximately twenty witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Brantford Courthouse, Main Courtroom, 70 Wellington St. Dr. Jack Stanborough will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Karen Shea will be counsel to the coroner
