Inquest Into The Death Of Sarah Cheecham Announced


Toronto -- Dr. Bert Lauwers, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Ms. Sarah Cheecham.

Ms. Cheecham, aged 22, died on April 22, 2009, at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, following transfer from the Central East Correctional Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Cheecham's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last four days and to hear from approximately 17 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the City of Kawartha Lakes Court House, 440 Kent Street West, Lindsay. Dr. Peter Clark will preside as inquest coroner and Mr. Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
